Gen Z  or  Gen Re?

We, as Financial advisors, get in touch with people from all walks of life ….  different ages …   different circumstances…

Generation Z (or more commonly known as Gen Z ), also known as Zoomers, is  the demographic cohort succeeding Millennials and preceding Generation Alpha.   These are the people born from the mid-to-late 1990s and the early 2010. Most members of Generation Z are children of Generation X or younger Baby Boomers.

This younger generation’s awareness of their higher purpose to fix the broken world they were born into, is inspiring!  The youngsters in this group  have grown up with access to the internet and portable digital technology from a very young age.  They are digitally literate!

We’re seeing the emergence of micro-hustlers, youngsters turning their passions into businesses, social justice and environmental warriors, as well as young leaders making moves in business and politics.  That’s why we prefer to call them GenRe – as a collective they’re helping us recalibrate the way we do things in every facet of our lives.

They think differently!

They love social media and communication online – they think it is simple  and get basically all things done via an electronic device, but for older people this can be a struggle that they do not understand…   It almost seems that they are born with  technology-abilities.

HOW DOES THIS FORM PART OF FINANCIAL PLANNING?

People and this includes the younger generation,  want someone they can trust. TRUST is the one underlying thing that we all want and need.  Youngsters want to know that the person giving them advice can be trusted and that they know their product.  They also want relationships – with humans, not just with their ipad!  Technology is an enabler to help them reach their goal.   But they still appreciate the opinion of a proper financial advisor.

They do not want hundreds of opinions and wasted time. They want it done quickly and efficiently.  There is no guarantee that all will be smooth sailing when first meeting up with a financial advisor,  but  that is why I strive to first do a lot of homework and then give my clients the best product according to their needs.

GenRe people want to know that what they do matters. Everyone wants to make money, but they want to know that they can build a relationship with a Financial Planner that will keep them up to date with the latest trends and give advice on a regular basis.  The Financial Advisor must know what the young person’s plans are for the future.  The Advisor / Planner must educate them on different financial aspects so that they can make informed decisions and have a product that they can adjust over time as their income grows.

Look out for trends on social media  where I will  give content that is educational, reliable and practical!  And remember, Generation Z:  there are still older people that can give you a go when it comes to technology!
